The Raleigh Safety Club is a men's service organization created to "look after" those in extreme poverty or bereavement in Raleigh's South Park area. The Raleigh Community Club (for women) was its sister organization - founded in 1945. The two service clubs met separately in a cement block building built by the men of The Safety Club in 1952. For decades, The Safety Club was the site of gospel sings, family reunions, receptions and club meetings. The building fell into disuse and disrepair by the late 1990's. Passage Home was approached by the elders of The Safety Club at a time when Passage Home wanted to expand its neighborhood programs. The project was a win-win for both groups.
Completed in April 2006, the 8,000 sq. ft. building houses Passage Home's Weed & Seed Initiative, as well as other community programs. Public spaces are available for lease. To inquire about leasing, please call 256-4257.
