Volunteer Opportunities

Passage Home volunteers impact the lives of hundreds of children and adults each year.  Please review the many ways you can assist us in delivering our community development mission.

*Immediate Need - MEN to volunteer with the children.  There are many opportunities available (one-time, short-term, and long-term).  Please send an email to the Children's Case Manager if you are interested.

Click on any of the areas of volunteer interest listed below.  An
e-mail form will pop-up.  Complete the brief form, to notify our volunteer coordinator of your potential interest.

Errand Runners and Drivers: Help single parents by providing round-trip transportation to appointments, grocery store, etc.  Requests are often very short-notice.  Flexible schedule is key.  Must be available to drive (and wait) weekdays.

Career Support Team: Most employers will not consider a job applicant with a prior felony.  We need articulate, passionate volunteers to advocate to local employers to give our clients a chance, to help open doors that are too often firmly shut.  Also need support with job-seeking tips: interview etiquette, proper attire, resume writing, suitable references.

Office Assistance: At Passage Home’s office on Johnson Street; also at The Safety Club in southeast Raleigh.  Data entry, filing and telephone coverage.  Can you give a half day a week?

Safety Club Library: Help shelve and organize books periodically.  Can you donate books or solicit donations from friends and other community sources?  Located on the second floor of The Safety Club community center in southeast Raleigh.  In need of new, or like-new children’s book and adult novels.

Computer Training: Are you proficient in MS Word, Exel and Powerpoint software?  Need volunteer instructors and tutors for children and adults to teach basic computer skills.  Evening opportunities available.  Locations:  Hollenden Community Center in North Raleigh, and Safety Club Community Center in southeast Raleigh.

Movers: Need strong backs and big trucks. Help with furniture pickup and delivery to furnish client apartments and houses.  3rd and 4th Saturday mornings each month.

Facility and Grounds Maintenance: Help maintain and repair Passage Home’s many apartment properties.  Exterior, interior and grounds maintenance.  In need of skilled handymen/ women (own tools a plus) and experienced gardeners and landscapers.

Group Support: Third Thursday evenings each month. Passage Home client families gather for dinner, followed by a life-skills program. Volunteers needed to prepare and serve the meal, and to offer learning activities to adults and children.

Children’s Activities:  Need creative, energetic people who love kids.  We have three sites for after school activities – games, field trips, crafts, sports – for children ages 5-11, Mon. thru Thurs./ Late August thru late May; 3:30 until 6:00 pm.

Thrift Store Help:  Volunteer staff at Passage Home’s Mustard Seed thrift store, 1504 New Bern Avenue, near downtown Raleigh.  Counter help, pricing, sorting.  Two and three hour shifts - Fridays and Saturdays.

Do you have a skill that you don’t find listed above?  Please call or e-mail and let’s discuss.

We always need household items – cookware, upholstered furniture, sheets, pillows for queen or twin beds, tables, lamps.  MUST BE NEW OR LIKE NEW CONDITION.

Also – plus-size women’s clothing:  sizes 14 to 22.
